Saving Steve Goodwin’s music before Alzheimer’s can steal it

Steve Goodwin was diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer’s disease in 2015 at the age of 65. He composed dozens of songs on the piano throughout his life, but never wrote any of them down. Goodwin has been working with a professional musician and family friend, Naomi LaViolette, for over a year to help record his songs before his memory fades.
Teresa Mahoney
Teresa Mahoney is a video journalist at The Oregonian in Portland, Ore. She produces animated investigative explainers, feature videos and everything in between. Mahoney came to The Oregonian after working as a video manager and trainer at Mint newspaper in New Delhi, India’s second largest financial daily. She previously taught multimedia journalism as a teaching fellow at the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, where she earned a master's in digital media journalism.
